Access to the right information at the right time can shape how young people navigate their lives. From understanding personal rights to managing opportunities, creative work, and everyday decisions, knowledge remains one of the most powerful tools for building confidence and independence.
The Soirée Foundation is introducing Literacy Sessions, a community-driven initiative designed to equip young people with practical, relevant knowledge across areas that directly affect their lives. These sessions are built around the idea that learning should be accessible, engaging, and rooted in real experiences.
Literacy Sessions will cover a range of focus areas, including rights awareness, information access, intellectual property for creatives, and policy conversations, each delivered in collaboration with experienced professionals and partners. By bringing in field experts, the programme creates space for deeper understanding, open dialogue, and meaningful exchange.
At its core, this initiative is about disbursing information in a way that is clear, useful, and empowering, ensuring that young people are better equipped to make informed decisions and confidently navigate their personal and professional journeys.
We begin this series with a Legal Clinic, a natural starting point shaped by the need for greater awareness around everyday legal rights and responsibilities. Many young people interact with contracts, employment, digital spaces, and personal agreements without a clear understanding of the legal frameworks that affect them.
In partnership with Zaluso Arts, and with expert facilitation from Khwima Mchizi of Mchizi & Associates, the Legal Clinic creates a safe, open environment where participants can learn the basics of the law, ask questions, and gain practical insights they can apply immediately.
This session is not just about legal knowledge — it is about building confidence, reducing uncertainty, and creating access to expertise that is often out of reach.
As the programme grows, Literacy Sessions will continue to expand into other areas, bringing together community, knowledge, and professional insight to support a more informed and empowered generation.
